On Saturday, my two five-year old friends and I went down to Depot Town for Ypsilanti's second annual Chili Challenge to benefit SOS Services. It was spectacular.
The first 5-year old is a frequent Depot Town visitor all summer long but until the advent of Webkinz at Gordon's Five and Dime came less often during the cold wintry months. The other 5-year old lives in the Township but had never been to Depot Town.
Yesterday, they both loved the chance to sit up at the bar at Sidetrack; get a table at Aubree's; sit up high at Cafe Luwak and in the window at the Queen of Hearts. They shared differing taste preferences at a table at Cady's, at a booth of the Corner Brewery and in the corner on the floor at the Ypsi Food Co-op.
Chili discussions were rarely interrupted. One key topic by the Township resident was whether or not each place sold candy. The visit first to Gordon's made a huge impression and proved a hard act to follow. They also discussed serious friend issues that mirror larger City/Township issues.
Township resident: "Will you still be my friend tomorrow?"
Depot Town resident: "Uh huh."
Township: "What about after that, when we get older?"
Depot Town: "Yes, I'll still be your friend. I'll be your friend forever."
Township: "What about when we die?"
Depot Town: "I'll still be your friend."
Township: "But you can't think when you die."
Depot Town: "I'll still love you though."

Yeah but WHO WON! Trying to find out, which is how I came across your blog. Unofficially I heard it was the white turkey chili served at Cady's. But I can't find anything official--tried your local yokel friends too. Nothing there either.
If you like Irish blogs, try to find Gingerpixels, a good Irish photoblog.
Big Dave,
The winners were SOS and Depot Town.
Seriously, though, we saw and chatted with two of the celebrity judges you might inquire about the winner from: The Mayor and James Mann. Or if you know East Cross' Brian Robb, he may have the answer ready.
We left before the final winner was announced to spend some quality time at Cafe Luwak. It did seem as you suggest that one of the Cady's chilis was a favorite. But it might not be the turkey chili, it might be their Cajun version I would think as my two young companions did not care for the Turkey version (2 out of our group of 3).
I will post the winner here after a little more research. If you hear first, please drop another line.
Awww, I love their conversation. So adorable! I'm glad you had a good time.
