The study mentioned in the post prior to this one references a Scottish study that suggests it is better to allow your tea to steep longer. I've found the study and excitingly, not only does it suggest that it is fine to leave your tea bag steeping, it finds that it is fine to add milk to your tea, too.
A German study from January 2007 found that adding milk cancelled the positive health effects of tea. The Scottish study appears to have been first testing the milk and tea study and secondly testing length of infusion time.
