Slim Jim Dog Treats

Each day at lunch my dogs receive a certain chewable stick, less chewy than rawhide, but chewy enough to last about 30 seconds.

Lately, I have been concerned about Chinese chemical additives to dog food. Ever since all the stories about dog food production in China.

So I have been searching unsuccessfully for US made rawhide and chew sticks. I thought for sure that by going to PetCo and PetSmart I'd be in the clear. No luck. Finally, at Meijer I found American Dog brand products and thought "problem solved." I bought two packages, got home and saw that the Made in China label was just smaller on this packaging, but still there.

This week, I am doing an experiment with using both biscuits from the 3 Dog Bakery and Slim Jims.

I thought the Slim Jim, approved by the US FDA, would have to be safer than the Chinese products. The experiment has not been too successful, however, because Slim Jim's are not chewy enough and Maverick just inhales them. Also, tonight I read the side of the package and found out that of the 170 calories in a Slim Jim, 140 are from fat.

The search is still on. I will soon try Mantis again on Michigan Avenue and hope for the best.

You can get chicken jerkey at Trader Joe's. I dont know where the chicken comes from the only ingredient is chicken. You can get it at Costco sometimes too.
