Starbucks offers free wi-fi, Ypsi network expanding

Starbucks announced yesterday [link] that it will begin offering free wi-fi through AT&T at its coffee shops.

"Beginning this spring, Starbucks Card holders can enjoy up to two hours of free Wi-Fi service per day at Starbucks locations offering Wi-Fi access, while more than 12 million qualifying AT&T broadband and AT&T U-verseSM Internet customers will have unlimited free access to the Wi-Fi service."

Fortunately, Ypsilanti both does not have a big Starbucks—independent coffee shops still rule—and it has an ever expanding city wide wireless initiative through Wireless Ypsi.

MacWorld reports there is still no word for iPhone users as to whether the Starbucks/AT&T partnership will bring iPhone users along for free wireless even without a Starbucks Card.

Thanks for the kind post about Wireless Ypsi. If you get a chance to try it out, let us know what you think. We are also looking for more folks to host antennas so let us know if you want to help out.
