Originating from the Cereal City, I have always felt I have a special authority in the way of cereal recommendations. It is out of that authority, here on Easter Sunday that I would like to suggest a different kind of cereal, one that caught me offguard. The cereal is called: Ezekial 4:9. It can be found locally at Hiller's or Kroger's amongst other places.
This is a cereal I never would have tried on my own. A co-worker who I respect suggested trying it. Even then I felt doubly cautious. Why? A. It was $4.99 a box at Hiller's; B. It looked like too much organic goodness; C. Its name is that of a Bible verse.
But, I knew that the referrer is not a right wing Bible thumper. I knew she would be unlikely to follow up this suggestion with a directive to memorize verses throughout the Old Testament. So I gave it a go.
The flavor and texture is very similar to Grape Nuts. It is chewy and has almost no natural sweetness. Why am I carrying this discussion further?
It is super filling and it makes you feel good. I don't mean it makes you feel all giddy or ethereal or anything. I mean it makes you feel solid and whole and ready to face the day.
After trying it and circling back to my co-worker, she mentioned that she does eat it with honey.
The box says that the Food for Life Baking Co creators found that when you mix the 6 grains and legumes mentioned in Ezekial 4:9, you form a complete protein.
Today, after eating chocolate and Rugalach and pie, I feel lousy. Tomorrow, I may get right back to my $5 cereal. It is better to feel whole.
