Detroit Kennel Club Dog Show

This past weekend I attended the Dog Show with a local Girl Scout troop at Cobo Arena, downtown Detroit. I had many inchoate impressions that only now I feel ready to share, though still in their randomized format.

  • It would be great to have a St. Bernard. These dogs look so huge and cuddly and lovable. The handler pictured above also had a great joie de vivre.
  • My oh my there are a ton of dog classifications.
  • There are social groups for all kinds. In all, the dog show crowd seemed friendly, welcoming and focused on doing right by their animals.
  • How depressing, oh not the dog show, but all the way there and all the way back I listened to "A Thousand Splendid Suns." My cousin recommended this book. It is well written but I don't recommend it unless you are in the mood for Sylvia Plath style darkness and maybe getting in touch with your inner rage. I have had to turn to "Mr. Paradiso" by Elmore Leonard to try to obliterate this dark book from my mind. The sad thing is that I think that the author feels by throwing a little small light at the end, it is ok to punish the reader for the first 10 CDs.
  • The dog crowd seemed to have their own tailgate style event going on at the sides where the grooming was. There were crock pots and all kinds of good eatings for friends at each of the booths.
  • My dogs, if pure bred and not rescue dogs who have lost their non-existent papers, would have put these pampered, hair sprayed pups to shame.

Yes, I agree! Your dogs would have! :-) No hair spray needed!
